An architecture office in Rotterdam. We make public buildings and homes from stone, brick, lime and earth, and we test every material before we draw with it.

The practice
Buildings should get better as they weather. We choose materials for how they will age, then design the details that let them.
The office is fourteen people: architects, an engineer, a materials researcher and two model makers. Every project is led by a partner from the first meeting to handover.
We keep a library of physical samples and a record of how each one has aged on our roof since 2015. Clients are welcome to visit it before a single drawing is made.
- Marit VeldFounding partner, architectLeads the bathhouse and housing work. Trained as a stonemason before studying architecture.
- Chidi OkonjoFounding partner, engineerStructural engineer by training. Responsible for every building the office has made stand up without steel.
- Aino PaarmaAssociate, material researchRuns the sample library: 600 bricks, tiles, limes and earths, each with a test record.
What we do
- New buildings
- Public, cultural and housing projects from first sketch to the last snag list. We stay on site through construction.
- Usually 600 to 5,000 m²
- Reuse and retrofit
- We start by surveying what is already there and keep as much of it as the structure allows. Demolition is the last option, not the first.
- Industrial and heritage shells
- Material research
- Test panels, kiln trials and long-term weathering studies for clients who want to know how a surface will look in thirty years.
- Commissioned alongside or alone
- Feasibility and competitions
- Short, fixed-fee studies that tell you whether a site can carry the brief, and what it will cost, before you commit.
- Four to eight weeks
They spent the first month in the valley with us, testing which stone the spring water would stain and which it would leave alone. Four years later the pools look the way they promised they would.

Sulfur studio site
A complete one-page website for an invented architecture office: a pointer-driven variable-weight headline that swells and stretches letter by letter, a project index whose generated SVG drawings follow the cursor, practice, services, testimonial and a validated enquiry form.
